Hannah's mother took John Parker to court for support. Apparently he maintained an interest in Hannah as there is a record that he was a witness at her wedding.
Carlisle Castle records dep't. held the answer to the "Hannah Parker" business. She was born Hannah Mouncey (later records show Mounsey), bastard child of Elizabeth Mounsey of Wray, spinster. Baptized 19 Jun 1785 Dacre. Elizabeth took the father to court for support, and the Bastardy Recognizance of 1785 records that his name was John Parker, residence Proach, Westmorland (I can't find Proach anywhere), occupation miller. He was unmarried. Elizabeth's residence was listed as Newchurch, Watermillock and also Bampton, Westmorland.
[8755] Well, I had just the dandiest time in England for 8 days, and spent one whole day of it poking around Matterdale, inspecting the churchyards of Matterdale and Watermillock, plus located the Greening Farm where John Harris White was raised, and High Birch Close, up the hill, where he lived in 1829 as a yeoman. Both are owned by the Edmondsons, of Walloway Farm, the next farm over. Greening burned about 50-60 yrs ago, but it's a stone building that can be restored, and slate roofs reinstated. The barn is intact, and has the initials "JW" carved in the stone by the door! The Edmondsons are planning to restore Greening for their son Christopher to live in someday...he looks about 19. I was quite excited to talk with them, and I got a phone # for the genealogist in the family, who knows something of the history of the houses and the people who have lived in them. Their father, Alf, is also alive, and would be a good source of information. High Birch Close is a well maintained, beautiful stone house used as a cottage rental at present. The barns next door have been turned into a home, all painted white and very pretty. Carlisle Castle records dep't. held the answer to the "Hannah Parker" business.
