[10903] son of Walter and Minnie Lee
JIM BEAN
Jim Bean, owner of the Green Parrot Bar, died suddenly at his home in Excelsior, Minn., on Saturday, July 31, 2010.
Jim was born Dec. 6, 1946, and after graduating from Minnetonka High School ('64) he served valiantly in the Marines during Viet Nam, receiving the Purple Heart in recognition of his combat injuries. Back in Minnesota, his love for Lake Minnetonka was poured into his business, Greenwood Marina, and his restored Hackercraft, "Perseverance."
Jim purchased The Green Parrot Bar on his birthday in 1983, using money squirreled away with dreams of building an enclosed porch on his house at the lake.
Key West benefited greatly by his decision to go with the bar and not the porch.
With his wife, Linda, they then began their love affair with the very local and sometimes rowdy corner saloon. While he was constantly upgrading the 120-year-old building, he never forgot that what gave The Parrot its universal appeal was keeping the local color intact and keeping what he referred to as the "salty" characters coming back. Jim relished the time he spent rubbing elbows with his customers, especially on the slower nights, when he could simply enjoy the jukebox and a few games of 9-ball. Those who were fortunate enough spend time with him on those nights quickly went from being patrons to becoming dear friends.
He could not have been prouder when, in 2000, Playboy Magazine named The Green Parrot one of "The Best Bars in America," stating that "The search for the definitive Key West Saloon ends at James Bean's Green Parrot where ... the management works tirelessly to avoid progress." His famous passion for music can still be felt throughout the saloon, from the live entertainment, to the signed guitars on the walls, to the albums that he selected for the jukebox.
His passion for people and a boundless zest for life made him friends wherever he went.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Minnie Lee; parents-in-law, Charles and Borgie Britzius; and sister-in-law, Carrie Willette. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 38 years, Linda; son, Aaron; daughter, Morgan; daughter-in-law to-be, Angela Pehle; brothers, Thomas (Janice) and Robert (Kathryn); and brothers-in-law, Fred (Sue), Dale (Paulette), Scott (Carol) and Glenn (June).
A celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010, at Mount Calvary Church, 301 County Road 19, Excelsior (952-474-8893). Just like Jim, casual attire is suggested. Visitation will take place for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Huber Funeral & Cremation Services Excelsior Chapel, 952-474-9595.
In honor of The Parrot's "El Jefe," a memorial celebration and party will take place in Key West on Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010. Details will follow.
Memorials preferred to American Heart Assoc. or Veterans.

K Marshall shares notes she received from A. Alexander. He found theis information in
"The Montbeliard Setlers At Tatamagouche: DesBarres' First
Settlers in the 1770s". It's a small, informative booklet which indicates
that James Bigney and his family were one of the thirteen families that left
Lunenburg and moved to Tatamagouche at the invitation of Joseph Frederick
Wallet DesBarres, a man whose family came originally from Montbeliard.
DesBarres was trained as a military engineer in England and arrived in North
America at the time Louisbourg was captured. As a reward for surveying the
land that had been owned by the Acadians, prior to their expulsion from Nova
Scotia, DesBarres was granted 20,000 acres of land, including the former
Acadian lands at Tatamagouche.
Wanting to be like European land owners who rented out their farms to
tennants, DesBarres invited Bigney and the other 12 families to move to
Tatamagouche and farm on his land. This they did. Not wanting to be
tennant farmers forever, the Bigneys eventually moved from Tatamagouche to
River John (a distance of about 20 miles) where some of their descendants
still live. The first children of James BIGNEY and Mary CALAME were born in
Lunenburg; the rest were born in Tatamagouche.

Per father's estate papers she is living in Cavalier, Pembina County, North Dakota. She is listed as an heir at the time of his death, 3 Apr 1899. She is not listed with the other 9 children as receiving a share on 24 Jan 1902 because, the papers explain, she had received an advance from the estate of $700 prior to the death, an amount which more than covered her share of the estate.
I find John Krak listed as a 17 yr old on his father's farm in the 1880 census, Cavalier twsp, Pembina Co, Dakota Territory, but no listing for same area in 1900.
1920 Census - She is listed w. husband John and 5 children - Rosa, Flossie, Dewey, Wilis Roosevelt, and Pansy P. Katy
