CWT Calvin Stevens Home on Leave from Pacific Area
"Chief Water Tender Calvin Stevens, Jr., is spending his first leave at home in three years visiting his parents Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Steves of Helena.
Chief Stevens, who has been in the navy since 1934, was at Pearl Harbor during the Jap attack at which time the ship on which he was serving was sunk. He became the survivor of a second ship sinking when the destroyer on which he was serving was sunk in action in August, 1942, near Guadalcanal.
During the past two years, he has seen much action in the Pacific, the most recent operations in which he participated, being the landings at Leyte and Lingayen."
