In Hettie Balis's "Memories" she writes about Bob and Ella:
P. 69B (After Hettie's divorce from Duff Livingston) " Bob (Balis, Hettie's brother) had married Ed Stevens' sister, Maud. They lived on Uncle's(Possibly Henry Balis, a great uncle to Bob Balis) old place. Maud and Bob wanted me to come there and she would take care of Bobby and I could find work. I always would go home on weekends and be with them. She thought a lot of Bobby and he was happy with them. (on p. 71B she tells about letting her son Bobby go to stay with Bob and Ella Maud again.) When (Bob and Bobby) got home Maud had been very sick and after doing all the doctor or anyone else could, she passed away inside of 3 or 4 days. Bob wired me and had to leave to take the body to Brodhead for burial. Uncle Henry being there, he kept Bobby til I could get there."
